The Measure of a Man

May 6th, 2008 by prestakafamily

Let’s talk about something deep, about value of our lives,
the purpose of living as human being.

I suddenly remembered a spiritual autobiography of Sydney
Poitier as I had casual talks with my hubby. I reckon Poitier’s moral is quite
interesting and it reminds us about how we should live our lives.

The point is about how you measure a man. Do you consider a
man is successful if he owns full garage of expensive cars, big residents that
is expensively furnished, or if he is the CEO of a multinational company with huge
buck of salary? Those are the common standards to state that a man is success
in his life.

Well, apparently Mr. Poitier has different view. He stated
that measure of a man is his family, particularly children whom he raised. (Herein,
I rephrase what he conveyed in his autobiography). The children should love
their father and mother with all their heart.

I totally agree with him. Family values are intangible, yet
they are sustainable in our lives. Bonding of family love strengthens our soul
to embrace any challenges and obstacles.

I don’t reckon one is successful, even if he is the top
manager in a giant company, yet he just got a divorce and abandoned their
beautiful two children. I don’t envy a man if he has a gorgeous mansion and
built-up car, yet he has many extra-marital affairs.

Children are like clays and parents are the potters. Parents
mold the children with their values, beliefs and loves. Children will grow up
as how their parents have formed them. A
successful man is when he has solid family bonding with children who have
characters and wits to embrace the life.

As closing, I’d like to quote Sir Edward Coke; “A man’s
family is his greatest treasure.”

Build your family and love your family.

Idea. Idea. Idea

One business idea popped and blinked inside my head a month ago. I have talked about it to my hubby, who is my partner in crime. He loved it! Today, we brought it up to friends of ours, who allegedly proposed to be considered as a prospectus investor. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

Well, idea is a good starting point. Idea that is accepted by prospectus will lead to a better path. However, idea without business plan looks like a daydream. So, my next step is very clear…go grab my laptop and start punching those keypads. Wish me luck!
